Australian University Heads of English (AUHE) is a peak body representing the discipline of English and literary studies within the tertiary sector in Australia. It draws together representatives from English and literary programs or departments across the country, as well as existing scholarly literary associations. We aim to further the interests of literature and writing, as well as the discipline and its students, in the university sector and in public life, and to provide a forum in which the present and future of literary studies in Australia is shaped. As an advocacy body, the AUHE is active in areas such as the connections between the study of English in secondary and tertiary education, quality assurance in university teaching, research funding, enrolments, curricula as well as pedagogic strategies for teaching literature in English.
As an institutional affiliation, membership is open to all Australian universities. The current President is Professor Nicole Moore, UNSW (Canberra).
