The AUHE executive has sent an emailed letter of support to the staff of the English and Creative Writing program at Murdoch University, in response to the Fair Work Commission’s endorsement of the termination of the university’s enterprise agreement. The letter is reproduced below.
Dear Associate Professor De-Reuck and colleagues in English and Creative Writing at Murdoch,
The Australian University Heads of English association (AUHE) has noted with concern Murdoch University’s campaign to terminate its enterprise agreement with staff, and now the Fair Work Commission’s decision to validate that push. We fear the weakening of working rights and conditions that support teaching and research in our discipline, and the implications of this decision for industrial conditions and productive intellectual work across the tertiary sector in Australia.
The executive of AUHE sends its good wishes to you and the program. We’d encourage you to keep in touch with us about the direct implications for your program and School, so that we can provide support where possible in the interests of the discipline. Please feel free to circulate this letter further.
With kind regards,
President, Australian University Heads of English (AUHE)
